[8b top] Mishna: One may not dig graves on Chol Hamoed. Tosephos and Rashi: This is not discussing a case where there is a body waiting to be buried, but just to have extra plots ready and available should needs arise. This is classified as unnecessary extra work which is prohibited on Chol Hamoed.

E’s Lesson: We might have thought that since people pass away every day, we should always be ready “just in case.” However, The Rabbis teach us that when it comes to Mitzvos and Simchas YomTov, we need to show our focus and only deal with situations when they actually become reality. We should have faith in Hashem that when we do what He wants from us, we will all be taken care of properly.
