KNOWING BETTER

[4b top] R’ Meir: When one uproots extra vines so that other vegetables may grow better for himself, he may not do the same for the Pei’ah ones (that are set aside for poor people). R’ Rosner (quoting Rishonim): This is because most poor people would rather have more of lesser quality vegetables than less of higher quality produce.

E’s Lesson: Many times when we see others’ actions, we think we know a “better way” that would be more advantageous for them. However, certain people may act in certain ways that suit them exactly based on their specific needs or personal character traits. When we are asked to do something for someone else as a favor, we must put our own egos aside and remember, “The WHY does not matter!” Just do it. Act out of kindness and love and through our selfless devotion we will help make the world a better place.
