[24a top] Braisa: One may not testify about “seeing” the new moon if it was viewed in a reflection or through a glass.
R’ Rosner: Viewing the moon for Kiddush Levanah (blessing on the moon), and other Halachick viewings (such as what to appropriately look and and immodesty) do not carry these same restrictions and have broader allowances and prohibitions accordingly.

E’s Lesson: We are not permitted to view immoral images in person, through a “screen” or even in print. The prohibitions are based on anything that would bring us to have improper thoughts. We need to know how to safeguard ourselves not to “run into” problems in the first place. From having filters on the internet, to watching T.V. (and commercials!), to having books in our home, we must keep protected what is Holy and value what we deem precious. Think about it: If we have 10,000,000 dollars sitting in our homes, to what lengths would we protect it? Kal Vachomer, we must protect our souls a billion times more so!!
