1 Adar II, 5774 (3/3/14) – Sukkah#28 {Tani}
Mar explains: A minor is exempt from mitzvos before the age of chinuch, but once he reaches that age of chinuch, he certainly is obligated in fulfilling commandments.
What age is chinuch? When a boy is considered to not need his mother, and many opinions say that this is around the age of nine or ten.
T’s Lesson: We should not let children grow up without being properly introduced to mitzvos and doing the actual commandments. We should not say that “Ohh, I will just wait until they are Bar/Bat Mitzvahed, age 13/12. I can wait until that time to let them start doing mitzvos, and the yeshiva (schools) will take care of them until then.” It is incumbent upon US to train our children from youth, and to make sure they can be enacting the mitzvos from the time when they really understands and can carry them out, especially at chinuch age.
