MOTHER’S DAY
[3a top] Gemarah: After Aharon passed, the Jews were “seen” because they were no longer protected by the clouds of glory. Miriam’s honor had brought the Well with water, and Moshe’s honor brought the Jews the Maana.
Mabit: Why is there only a YomTov to commemorate the Clouds of Glory and not the Manna or the Well? Water and Food were necessary for survival in miraculous ways in a dessert, but the clouds and fire surrounding the Jews were a bit over the top. Hashem specifically did this for us when it was not necessary to show His true over-bounding love for us.
E’s Lesson: This is perfectly appropriate today as it is “Mother’s Day.” One might argue that “Everyday is Mother’s Day! Why should I celebrate TODAY?” This is what Sukkos comes to teach us. Even though we must know that Hashem loves us deeply each and every day no matter what, we must set aside one time during the year (ie: Sukkos) to specifically convey the message. This “reminder” is meant to boost our levels of love, not just for a day, but to carry our emotions and feelings throughout the rest of the year.
