[16a middle] Reish Lakish: A Neshama Yeseira (extra soul) is given to a person on Shabbos.
Rashi: This “soul” is the ability to have greater capacity for rest, joy, and food without becoming cloyed.

T’s lesson: How do we not become nauseous or sick in Shabbos’s grandiosity? Some say we do not gain weight on this day, due to the ‘extra space’ inside.  Hashem gives us this Neshama Yeseira to be the recipient of the joy, food, and rest inherent in the physical additions of the day. G-d gives us this gift to experience the true wonderfulness that is Shabbos.
