Restfulness –
Rav Sheishes [13b bottom]: In regard to Melacha (creative acts) on the Shabbos the Torah only prohibited calculated labor (“melachas machshevet”) a professional activity. However, by Maasar (tithes), the obligation comes only once production is finished (heaping produce into a pile is the end of production for Maaser but not a Melacha per say on shabbos and peeling off barley kernels by hand is the end of production for Maasar purposes but not for a Melacha for Shabbos itself).
T’s Lesson: One should be careful to observe Shabbos in the proper way, and follow the spirit of the law [even if an activity may technically not be prohibited as one of the 39 Melachos]. We should keep in mind to live within the “spirit of the law.” We should consider our workloads fully completed once Shabbos begins, even if we have many obligations awaiting after Shabbos.
