Gemarah [11b bottom]: There are four cases listed that involve a permissible commandment to begin but to finish would involve violating a prohibition. The Gemarah explains that the entire act is therefore permitted, because otherwise people would not even fulfill the original obligation out of fear of prohibiting something later.
R’ Moshe Feinstein: This is the source as to why we allow doctors/Hatzalah to drive home on Shabbos after permissibly going into a hospital for a call.
E’s Lesson: We do not want people to avoid fulfilling commandments out of a later fear of running into a prohibited situation. We never know what tomorrow will bring. We must focus on today, the here and now and do the best we can in our given time and space. Never delay and do the most Mitzvos today!
