Mommy’s Chicks –
R’ Channah bar Ami [10a bottom] (explains the following argument): Beis Hillel: Verbal designation alone is enough to “prepare” baby chicks for use on YomTov. Beis Shammi: Physical movement is necessary to designate them for use on the Holiday. If you did not move baby chicks before YomTov (to set them aside) you may not touch them on YomTov. We are worried that on YomTov morning when you go to take these chicks you might feel bad (most people leave these first chicks to be with their mother before taking some away) and therefore, you might put them back (that is a violation of moving Muktzah for no reason).
T’s lesson: We should try to always be as decisive as possible. One should only be involved in the mitzvah when he has the exact decision of which bird he will use, so too we should ALWAYS be definitive in our choices and how to go about our mitzvot, without taking too much time decide how or when to do it. Do not delay, do Mitzvos RIGHT AWAY!
