Rabbah [6b top]: An item that is prepared for human consumption is not considered prepared for dogs because what is suitable for humans one would not throw away to the dogs. However, something prepared for dogs is considered prepared for humans because a man contemplates using anything suitable for him (ie: if he requires it in a time of need).

T’s lesson: We should consider everything in this world as being usable for us, for the right purpose. Just as something we would normally give to a dog may have purpose for a man, so too everything in this world that may seem unnecessary or extravagant may in fact be useful for man. One must always remember to use items for the right purpose. Pitfalls of the internet are extremely obvious, but there is much good that can come from it (when if used correctly). Although “dogs” might use it for bad reasons, the internet is in reality in existence for us with a more suitable purpose: Torah learning and character refinement.
