Leaving SINAI –

R’ Yoesph [5a] quotes the Torah (Devarim): After the giving of the Torah at Har Sinai, Hashem commanded “Go return to your tents.” This was a euphemism to go back and be as husband and wives, in relationships.
R’ Tatz: Why would Hashem need to command us to return to “normal?” Because G-d did not want us to STAY at Sinai! We were not meant to live purely spiritual lives like angels. We are therefore commanded to be involved in all our physicalities. But, we must BRING Sinai with us and infuse that into the physical to elevate it.

E’s Lesson: Every physical activity that we do (ie: walking, eating, working, sleeping…) must be accomplished with the proper intention. We must use the physical world only to accomplish spiritual benefit. After this life, G-d will ask us if we enjoyed every possible pleasure in the world, and if we missed one, we will be held accountable for it! But that means we have an obligation to enjoy it WHILE uplifting it to the Higher World. Everything is made for a spiritual purpose and we must make sure never to forgo opportunities to be partners in and ‘perfect’ His creation.
