יום ה Date: 4 Adar, 5777 (3/2/17) – Bava Basra Daf 39 ~ Eliezer Guterman
CONTINUING CONCENTRATION
[39a middle] R’ Huna the son of R’ Yehoshua: Things that people do not focus on (especially if they are not the responsible parties) are not always on their minds (and they tend to forget about them).
R’ Rosner explaning Chochmas Hamatzpun [Vayigash]: This world is just a hallway. Someone that enters a wedding during the smorgasbord, only see some h’orderves and drinks, and then goes home, misses the entire party. We must realize and focus on the main part to achieve what is important in life.
Ramchal: The Yetzer Hara tries to get us not to stop and think but just to go and run based on earthly desires and temptations.
Mesilas Yesharim: Step one in life is Zehirus; thinking/focusing/pausing.
D-E-ep Thoughts: We experience the physical world around us through five senses that G-d blesses us with. However, we must live through our ‘sixth sense’ of spirituality. Instead of running towards mouthwatering tastes, enchanting musical sounds, seductive smells, inappropriate sightings, and comforting touch, we must constantly keep our Holy souls connected to our Creator and guard our gates.
Today’s P.I.P. (Put Into Practice) TIP: Take care to stop and think before we act. Make sure that what we are doing is with the endgame in mind.
