HAKARAS HATOV
[118a top] Gemarah: If a man engages a laborer to work for him on straw, when the worker demands his wages, the man may not say to him, “Take the results of your labor for your wage.”
Rashi: Workers must be paid in money, not goods [this avoids the workers having to then go through extra steps by trying to first sell those goods to obtain money].
D-E-ep Thoughts: When people do good for us, we must repay them in kindness. Even hired workers must be shown gratitude. Hakaras Hatov (showing thanks) is never ending. Moshe Rabeinu had many names, but chose to go by the one Paroh’s daughter named him. This way, she would get credit (for drawing him out of the water) every time someone speaks about him.
Today’s P.I.P. (Put Into Practice) TIP: Think of a favor that someone once did for us and make sure to remind him/her TODAY how much we appreciate what was done for us (even if was a long time ago).
