[105b middle] Braisa: R’ Chiya: If one takes out compost/garbage on his head while he is wearing Tefillin, he should not simply move the Tefillin to the side of his head nor tie it onto his waist, since it would be disrespectful, but rather he should tie them to his upper arm (next to the place of his other Tefillin).

Prac-T-cal Tidbits: It is important to make sure to never become to ‘familiar’ with Holiness. We must recognize and realize how important spiritual items are and treat them with the utmost respect (even if we interact with them on a regular basis). Additionally, while performing Mitzvos (and especially while wearing Tefillin), we should keep a constant awareness of our bodies and minds to keep them clean and pure.
