DELAYED DECONSECRATIONS
[45a bottom] Beis Shammai: One may not deconsecrate Silver Selaim onto Gold Dinars out of concern that perhaps one might delay his ascents to Yerushalayim [because sometimes one’s silver consecrated coins may not add up to the value of a full gold coin, so he will not bring them with him or might actually miss his pilgrimage trip altogether].
D-E-ep Thoughts: It is common ‘human nature’ to delay obligations through procrastination. Even though Hashem blessed us with forgetfulness, we never want that to be the cause of missing out on Mitzvos. We should accomplish tasks early and jump on opportunities when they arise. If we are unable to do some important things at a current moment, we should at least make reminders immediately so as not to forget later. If we keep our hearts and minds focused on spirituality at all times, it will be much easier to get excited and fulfill our ultimate duties on time.
