“ROBBER, ROBBER!”
[16a top] Gemarah: If a robber sold a particular stolen land, and then took that exact field as payment for a debt (for the real original owner owed him money), and if the original owner has other lands but the robber still says he wants this specific land, we say that he is intending to secure it for the first purchaser (and trying to right his original wrongdoing that he did) as, “A person desires that people not call him a robber.”
Prac-T-cal Tidbits: It is important to try to be viewed by others in positive lights. We should avoid acting in ways that label us negatively (ie: as ‘robbers’) and act in legitimate and proper manners. When we keep honest practices, we will help better ourselves and bring a great Kiddush Hashem as well.
