R’ Rosner: Shmuel is also known as an expert doctor, and a master of astrology and astronomy. GM’ Brachos [58b]: Shmuel claims, “The pathways of the Heavens are as clear to me as the pathways of my own town, Nehardea.” Since he was ‘on call’ to help his fellow brethren at all times, he needed to know the ins and outs of all the roads and back alleys to assist the fastest possible.

D-E-ep Thoughts: Whenever we take on projects, we should invest the appropriate time, efforts, and energies in order to produce plentifully. Whatever would be required (and even simply extra helpful) to do our jobs most efficiently should be studied and analyzed critically. As we are entering into the Holiest Day of the Year, we should commit to proper preparation to yield the greatest spiritual results.
