PACIFYING PAYMENTS

[5b bottom] Gemarah: People who claim to have lost items that they were supposed to be watching and even willingly pay for them, are still considered thieves.

D-E-ep Thoughts: Even though results may be measured out properly in the ends, if the means were done with inappropriate ways it is not always justified. Especially in business, we must remember that our actions should not be ‘goal-oriented.’ We are tasked with doing some Hishtadlus (physical effort), but must remember to do so with absolute clear and positive intentions. Since our work is not meaningful in regards to what G-d grants us (which is predetermined at the New Year) we should be extra careful and sensitive in our dealings.
