[81a bottom] Rabbah bar Bar-Chanah quoting R’ Yochanan quoting R’ Yehudah bar Ilai: The earlier generations would bring in produce through the front doors (in order to specifically obligate themselves in taking tithes), while the later generations would bring the produce in through the roofs (in order to use legal loopholes and avoid obligating themselves in tithes).

D-E-ep Thoughts (based on R’ Rosner): We have to recognize the types of Jews that we are, and who we want to be. Instead of avoiding scenarios where we might run into requirements that would ‘burden’ us, we should be going out of our ways to specifically find new Mitzvah opportunities. We only have limited amounts of time on this world and we must remember to make the most of it.
