DIFFERING DATES

[79b bottom] Mishnah: A Get is valid only if it uses the dating system of years for the country it is being written in (and not that of another’s monarch).

D-E-ep Thoughts: Even though the majority of our dealings might be using an english calendar dating system of different years (and are even Halachically acceptable for Jewish law to use), we must recognize that this is not our own. It should feel foreign to us to not to count from the proper date of the true creation of the world. We must never get blown away in secular winds, and stand firmly strong in our cultures, beliefs, and true way of Holy Jewish life.
