WORKING WORDS

[67b bottom] Gemarah: When suffering from chills,  R’ Yosef would engage in turning a mill until he perspired and R’ Sheishess would carry beams and other heavy loads, while proclaiming, “How great is labor for it warms its practitioners.”
Maharsha: These sages were both blind but still sought means of strenuous work that was safe for them.
Benayahu: Chills here refer to fevers from exposure to cold, which is why these people engaged in physical activity to sweat it out.
Ben Yehoyada: Not only is work valuable for what it produces, but even the effort itself is beneficial.

Prac-T-cal Tidbits#1: The Talmud is not just a collection of laws and stories, but it incorporates real life practical and useful advice in how to best live our lives (both physically and spiritually).
Prac-T-cal Tidbits#2: Work is not just beneficial for the money we get by doing it. Our labor gives us meaning, purpose, and fulfillment. We should always act through Torah values and live within our moments (as they are all useful to us).
