[67a middle] Isi ben Yehudah: R’ Yehudah was a great sage when he wanted to be.
Maarotz Chayos: His “greatness” was that whenever he wanted to focus on his studies, no matter what going on around him, no distractions were able to get in the way of his learning.

D-E-ep Thoughts (based on R’ Rosner): It is too easy to blame our lack of abilities on outside sources. People blame their insufficient studies on external noises, family distractions, and work responsibilities. When we genuinely care about someone or something, we make the time for it and keep up with our commitments.
