TORAH TOILING

[57b bottom] R’ Nachman bar Yitzchak: The verse, “Because for Your sake we are killed all the time…” is a reference to Torah scholars who kill themselves in order to acquire the words of the Torah and its knowledge. R’ Shimon ben Lakish: The verse, “This is the law, when a man dies in a tent…” is homiletically explained to mean that Torah words are only retained by killing oneself over them.
Maharal: Since Torah is inherently ultra-spiritual one must toil in it and not delve deeply in physicality to obtain the true Holy source.

Prac-T-cal Tidbits: We should always push ourselves to learn and study. In order to obtain and keep it we must recognize that it takes real hard work. The greater the strain and pain, the more we gain and retain!
