A wife/woman specifically blesses the home each week with the lighting of the Shabbos candles.
Tur: Since Chavah brought death/darkness to the world, woman is tasked with its re-illumination.
RambaM: Since women are involved with the needs and creation of the atmosphere of the home, they are given the lighting of the candles which help create the specific Shabbos environment and ambiance.

D-E-ep Thoughts: When we enter into Shabbos, we must bring with us a sense of extra Holiness and illumination. Not only does this help set the tone for what our spiritual day of Holiness should be about, but we we are tasked with bringing our new found “light” into the next week and continually elevating our souls.
