MISPLACED MONIES

[48b bottom] Gemarah: One who finds lost property need not swear (that he/she did not find even more), for the benefit of society [as we want to encourage people to return lost objects].

Prac-T-cal Tidbits: We must always have respect for other’s properties (even non-Jews) and recognize how they are feeling having lost something. Returning lost objects is not just about the fulfillment of an obligation, but also an internal connection with the other person. Additionally, everything is in truth G-d’s and we must obey His commandments as to where things should be allocated (otherwise it might come out of a finder’s pocket in another manner).
