[46a middle] Rabbanan: The Jews did not slay the gibeonites to ensure a sanctification of G-d’s name (but really the Jews were permitted to violate their oath with the gibeonites because it was enacted under false pretenses).

Prac-T-cal Tidbits: We should always try to uphold G-d’s word and sanctify Him (even in cases where it seems almost too difficult to do so). We must put in extra efforts to make Hashem proud of us and recognize that the correct battle is not always the easy one.
