LIVELY LIVING
[12a middle] Gemarah: Since it says “And he shall LIVE,” regarding a servant who is sent to a city of refuge (for accidentally killing someone), perhaps a master would be obligated to continue supporting him [even if the master arranged previously that the servant would keep his own earnings].
R’ Rosner quoting RambaM [GM’ Makkos]: A Rebbe is also required to go to a city of refuge to teach Torah to his student (if the student was sentenced to be there). Because a life without Torah (taught by a Rebbe), is no life at all [and equated to death].
D-E-ep Thoughts: There are so many people that walk around ‘living,’ but they are truly ‘dead’ inside. No amount of physical pleasures can ever endure to make someone ultimately happy and alive. When we feed our spiritual souls we light up, become alive, and can truly LIVE in a state of “Be’Simcha” (filled with joy).
