DIFFERENT FOLKS
[110b top] Gemarah: Even though big cities have much more convenience, Rabbi Yosi ben Chanina says that large city living is difficult (due to overcrowding, lack of fresh air and an insufficiency of gardens and orchards). Some people like out-of-town/smaller cities because they have much more space and the cost of living is less expensive (based on Rashi & R’ Yona).
D-E-ep Thoughts: There are different strokes for different folks. When it comes to personal preference, there is no clear cut objectivity (as long as people’s preferences are within the framework of Jewish law). We all have our own roles to fill within society and we must look to see what environments best suit our personalities.
