DEAD ENDS
[88a middle] Rav Zereika quoting Rav Yehudah: If an alleged borrower’s children said, “Our father told us on his deathbed, that he never even borrowed money,” (that was claimed to be owed/unpaid to lenders), even if lenders swear that money is owed, they may not collect from the children.
Ritva: When a person is about to leave this world, he is assumed to be telling the truth. People do not usually lie when they are confronted with the reality of their end and finiteness on earth.
D-E-ep Thoughts: Unfortunately, many times it takes major events in people’s lives to jar them back into reality. We should be constantly working on recognizing our limited time in this world and how best we should be making use of the life span we are given. We must keep constant clarity and always use this vision to make the best choices possible.
