VILLAINOUS VOWS

[71a bottom] The Gemarah discusses a woman who is accustomed to making vows.
Tosephos: When it comes to restricting oneself (even for good reasons), there is a problem of even ‘making’ a vow in the first place (aside from possibly violating it) [if it prohibits good things].

D-E-ep Thoughts: We should not just make unnecessary vows and fences around any problem we encounter. We should also not purposefully put ourselves at risk. While there needs to be a proper balance, we are also here to specifically enjoy and partake of this world. G-d will ask us in the next world if we derived pleasure (permissively) from every single thing He created. We should always use everything we encounter properly and elevate all physicality to lofty spiritual levels.
