WIFE’S PAIN
[62b top] R’ Rechumi used to regularly attend Rava’s lectures in Mechoza and he would come home every Erev Yom Kippur to his wife. One Yom Kippur eve, he was so engrossed in his learning that he forgot to return home. His wife kept looking out for him and repeating, “Now he is coming… Now he is coming!” When R’ Rechumi did not show up, his wife felt disheartened and a tear shed from her eye. At that very moment, her husband was sitting in an attic and the floor gave way beneath him and he passed away.
Prac-T-cal Tidbits: Men must be extremely careful to never cause their wives pain in any way [this applies to both spouses, but women may be more emotionally sensitive]. Even one tender tear can have devastating ramifications. We should always try to only be sources of joy and happiness to our partners in life and help bloom beautiful blossoms.
