QUESTIONABLE QUANTUMS
[59a top] Rav Adda bar Ahavah: The (silver maah) fixed amount that a husband must give his wife, is in exchange of the other fixed amount (her mandatory earnings).
Shulchan Orech quoting RambaM: If a person commits oneself to an indefinite/unfixed amount (ie: A says to B, “I obligate myself to whatever amount you tell me,”), there is no obligation set.
Beis Halevi: When the Jews said to Hashem, “Na’ase Venishma,” since they could not have been simply agreeing to an eternal obligation (as it would not have been legally binding), they rather created a relationship of servitude to G-d (in which they became required to do their Master’s will).
D-E-ep Thoughts: When we interact with our friends and relatives, we must keep in mind the larger picture, rather than focusing on individual actions. We do not simply do continuous deeds, but are building palaces upon concrete foundations. Each action we perform builds stronger physical, emotional, and spiritual molecular bonds with those we wish to be closest to.
