[53a top] Yehudah ben Mereimar to R’ Pappa (outside of Abba of Sura’’s house): I should not go inside because if I would, it would amount to compulsion (Abba of Sura would be intimidated and he would be too ashamed to offer a normal ‘small’ dowry for his daughter in the presence of such a distinguished guest).

D-E-ep Thoughts: When we are surrounded by greatness, we are on very strict behaviors. Hashem must conceal Himself in this world in order to allow us to make truly free choices (without intimidation or coercion). However, our goal is to recognize G-d hiding and reveal Him in every aspect of the world. When we determine to come close to Him through our own will, G-d embraces us with open arms.
