[43 middle] Gemarah: A man gives preference to his widow (in regards to ensuring that she would not have to be humiliated by begging for food) over his daughters.
Children are direct extensions of ourselves, but a spouse is literally our other half.

D-E-ep Thoughts: All too often people get wrapped up in parts of themselves (with individual wants) and forget what it means to care of their complete unit (and other half). Just as a right hand should never smash its other left hand with a hammer for dropping an item (as it would only hurt the whole body’s self even more), we must never forget that even though we have separate bodies, we are one with our partners’ soul.
