MORNING GLORY
[42a middle] Mishnah: If a father claimed that a man violated his daughter and the man denies it, swears falsely, and then later admits to everything, the man is obligated to pay the original money owed, plus an additional fifth for swearing falsely.
R’ Rosner quoting R’ Sorotzkin [Oznayim Latorah]: One must be very cautious about denying having a Pikadon (an object belonging to a friend), as our Neshamos (souls) are Pikadons also. Every night Hashem takes our our souls and returns them in the morning. We do not want G-d to deny retuning ours, so we must be very careful about others’ properties (as Hashem always acts in a measure for measure format).
D-E-ep Thoughts: Every morning that we wake up, we must recognize the amazing miracle of life and how much we are blessed with. The first commandment we are instructed with (every morning, and also the first listed in the Shulchan Orech), is to jump out of bed like a lion and roar,
“מוֹדֶה אֲנִי לְפָנֶֽיךָ מֶֽלֶךְ חַי וְקַיָּים שֶׁהֶֽחֱזַֽרְתָּ בִּי נִשְׁמָתִי בְחֶמְלָה רַבָּה אֱמֽוּנָתֶֽךָ”
(I offer thanks before You, living and eternal King, for You have mercifully restored my soul within me; Your faithfulness is great). May we always appreciate everything we are given (especially as most of the time we do not even deserve His awesome blessings).
