[14b bottom] R’ Shimon ben Elazar (interpreting R’ Meir): If an individual is called a Mamzer (an illegitimate child) by someone [and it is not in actuality suspected that he/she would really be one], the appropriate response is to keep quiet [unless people need to defend themselves because of truthful suspicions].

D-E-ep Thoughts: Many times we are confronted with argumentation and stress. If we counter with our own attacks, we are clearly missing the messages. Silence is golden and reflects true maturity. We are only placed in this world to be tested and grow to come closer to G-d. We must never yell at a “stick” when we are beaten, but recognize the Master who is yielding it.
