SPECIFIC SPEECH

[11a top] The Mishnah talks about “slaves” that were freed, “captured” people that were redeemed, and “converts” that converted.
Ritva: The last example does not follow the same order (as it should have said “non-Jews” that converted, if talking properly about the previous titles). This is because we are not allowed to remind converts of their previous states [as this would cause embarrassment].

D-E-ep Thoughts: We should never remind people of their previous faults if they have become better people. Our pasts always help to define our futures, but we should only hold onto that which makes us stronger [if it helps to remind ourselves of previous sins to help keep us strong, we must do so]. But when we relate to others, we must always put out positive energies and help reinforce only their good behaviors (while letting go of what is not necessary).
