8 Adar II, 5774 (3/10/14) – Sukkah#35 {Eliezer}
R’ Avahu: Instead of reading in the Torah that an esrog should be הָדָר Hudur (beautiful), rather read the word as הַדָר Hadur (it dwells, ie: explaining another aspect of an esrog, that it stays attached to the tree all year round).
R’ Shalom Rosner explains the Radvaz: This is precisely why the torah is written without vowels. To teach us that there are many levels and layers to the Torah that bring explanation and life to this world.
[However, the Megillah of Purim may in fact be written with vowels, perhaps so as not to mix up the interpretation, since Hashem is hidden throughout the book but never explicitly mentioned.]
R’ Akiva Tatz: Whenever a word has multiple meanings or ways to be read, they are really all one in the same. For example, דִבֻר Dibur (speech) is the same word as דָבָר Davar (thing), because all things in this world are nothing but G-d’s speech crystallized into a physical form.
E’s Lesson: We should all be blessed with the insight to understand the depths of “reality.” Do not be content with superficiality. Always look for the multiple deeper meanings and messages that G-d is sending us constantly throughout life.
