RambaM: Now-a-days, there is still Holiness in Yerushalayim [even without the Beis Hamikdash (Holy Temple), once it was sanctified there always remains that spark of Kedusha (Holiness)… to light the next one from].

D-E-ep Thoughts (based on R’ Tatz): Hashem always manifests creation in the world in 3 levels. An initial phase (usually given to us for free) to experience the potential grandeur, followed by a middle phase (where it is almost all taken away) in which we have to toil arduously to get to a third phase which is the grandest of them all. This can be seen everywhere we look but some simple examples include: 1st -2nd-3rd Holy Temples, life-death-resurrection, ‘romance’-building relationships-love, Exodus-desert-Israel.  We must always appreciate the gifts that Hashem gives us, work towards earning them ourselves, and look forward to our ultimate redemptions.
