CAUGHT ‘FULL-BELLIED’
[69b middle] Rabbah bar R’ Huna: We are only concerned for pregnancy in cases of cohabitation during marriage. However, in cases that involve promiscuity, we are not concerned for pregnancy (because women who engage in illicit relationships go through measures to make sure they avoid becoming pregnant).
D-E-ep Thoughts: Most people have some attribute of shame attached to what they feel is deemed inappropriate (like women who do not want to show a pregnancy out of wedlock). Living out of fear (of punishment/embarrassment) is a start but a very low level motivator. We should not just try to avoid just getting caught, but rather try to think and do better from the get go. We must strive to make G-d’s commandments our true desires, and at least want to want to do the right things (even if we do not have the intentions yet appropriately). May we always want to connect to G-d through love and out of thankfulness and appreciation for everything that He has and continues to bless us with.
