NATURAL MIRACLES
[60b bottom] Rashash: If wine barrels could be used to tell if women were still virgins or not, why were they allowed to rely on a Neis (miracle) with using the Tzitz (Priestly golden head-plate) instead?
Birchas Avram: Since the Tzitz by definition was miraculous every time it was used in its normal functionality, it is as if it was any other “natural” object and could be used without ‘expecting’ G-d to perform a miracle outside of His natural patterns.
D-E-ep Thoughts: We, as Jews, understand that Hashem runs (and constantly recreates) the world in repetitive patterns [in ways that non-Jews call “nature” with “laws”]. We must realize that just as He makes water flow downstream, if He willed for it to flow upstream it would really make no difference. If we can recognize that all of nature is miraculous (or even that every miracle is truly natural), we will strengthen our bond with our creator and further fulfill our purpose in this world of Deveikus (coming closer) to G-d.
