TERMINATED ACQUISITIONS
[57a middle] Rava: When a woman’s Kohen husband dies, his acquisition of her terminates upon his death. That is why she would now be forbidden to eat Terumah (offerings given for Kohanim) despite the fact that she was previously able to [however, in the case of a Kohen who becomes maimed and is no longer able to cohabit with his wife after, his acquisition of her is not deemed terminated].
Prac-T-cal Tidbits: We should only try to be involved with acquisitions that are everlasting like Torah and Mitzvos. We should not get lost in foolishness (such as the “toys” of this world which do not accompany a person to the next world). Make sure to acquire good lasting deeds that will accompany us forever.
