A PROPHET’S EXECUTION
[49b middle] Rava: King Menashe (an evil king of the Davidic kings of Judah) killed Yeshayahu because he rendered Yeshayahu Hanavi a false prophet (G-d forbid). Menashe mentioned three flaws of Yeshayahu’s prophecy (all of which were actually not false), and had Yeshayahu killed [Yeshayahu was even his grandfather (Chizkiyahu the King married Yeshayahu’s daughter after doing Teshuva (repentance) for not having children because he knew he would have an evil son; Menashe)].
Prac-T-cal Tidbits: It is extremely dangerous to try to interpret the words of the Torah on our own! Menashe, a son of a righteous king and grandson of a holy and righteous prophet, was able to be so misled by seeming contradictions in his own mind that he was able to execute his own grandfather in cold blood! It is uber important to always learn Torah through the eyes of other Rabbis, lest one come to ever think ideas that are contrary to Torah (G-d forbid).
