WORDS ON ONE’S LEVEL

[44A top] Braisa: When dealing with a Yavam (who is waiting to marry his deceased brother’s wife), the elders of the city have to give him targeted specific advice that is appropriate to him. They must advise him if it is indeed wise to marry this girl [ie: if he is old and she is too young or vice versa, the Rabbis would say, “What do you have in common with such an older (or younger) woman? Go after someone similar in age to you and do not bring strife into your home!”].

Prac-T-cal Tidbits: We always have to give advice and guidance to someone appropriately which is applicable to that specific person on his/her own level [ie: do not tell a full time businessman to learn in Kollel all day (rather ask him to learn just a few minutes a day) or tell someone off-the-Derech (who has lost one’s way spiritually) to do a gradual about-face].
