UNITING SPOUSES

[15a top] R’ Nachman bar Yitzchak: If we would have tried to follow the opinion of Bes Shammai for all previous marriages, all co-wives of forbidden wives that married properly without having done Chalitzah would have their marriages now ruined by following this new ruling (which would have them still connected to different men other than their current husbands). Therefore, we do not impose this ruling because of “darchei noam,” (that the Torah’s ways are peaceful) and we do not want to separate couples.
R’ Rosner: Even King Dovid spent most of his busy days dealing with women’s spiritual cleanliness matters, in order to find ways to keep husbands and wives together.

D-E-ep Thoughts: The Torah and all its great sages work thoroughly to keep couples together. We must always be super careful ourselves to not only keep our marital bonds intact, but build them stronger each day. We live to serve our spouses in order to formulate the greatest relationship possible. This marriage is given to us (not only to perfect our souls through unification, but also) to teach us how we should strive to perfect our ultimate relationship with Hashem.
