WASTED WATERS

[11b bottom] Mishna: When two women, one Pasul (unfit to marry a Kohen) and one Kosher (fit to marry a Kohen), become available for Yebum to a (non-Kohen) man simultaneously, he should choose to marry the Pasul one. Even though either girl would work for him, the non-Kohen should spare the Kosher girl for another man (possibly a Kohen) to potentially marry her [where the Kohen would otherwise not be able to marry the Pasul one]. R’ Yosef: “Do not pour out water that you do not need, because someone else may potentially be able to benefit from it.”

D-E-ep Thoughts: We must always take care of our own needs first, then extend out to our families, friends and community. When we have the option to be just as satisfied with either object, we must consider what else might be affected down the line by own decision making process. We are all part of the Butterfly Effect. Little waves here on earth shifts worlds up in the Heavens. We must always precisely calculate each and every movement we make and be sure (not to act selfishly and) to keep others’ interests in mind.
