COMPROMISING CREATION

[6a top] Gemarah: The laws of Shabbos are very stringent.
Rashi: Violating Shabbos is tantamount to worshiping idols.

D-E-ep Thoughts: R’ Tatz: Idol worship is really the worship of one’s self (serving a messenger of G-d, rather than the true Source, only because one can get what he/she wants from it for selfish reasons). When one makes G-d serve him rather than him serving G-d, he is undermining his purpose of creation and does not deserve to live. Shabbos is the reason that the work week was created. The whole reason we work all week is to rest on the 7th day [this idea is parallel to our whole life of work to achieve and rest fulfilled in the next world “Mayain Olam Haba”]. When we undermine the reason for the week and creation of Shabbos, we are selfishly negating G-d’s creations and this is why it is equated to serving idols. May we always keep our thoughts in proper perspective and understand the deeper meanings of our actions.
