But a Word

[11a bottom] Braisa: A Mikvah’s (ritual bath’s) size is learned from the verse, “He shall immerse in the water his entire flesh.” This indicates that the Mikvah’s waters must be gathered and they must be enough to contain one’s whole body during the immersion. The exact measurements must be at least: one amah, by one amah, by three amos [which is the size of an average person and weighs out to be three cubic amos of water (measured by the sages to be at least forty se’ah)].

T’s Lesson: We see here how a very precise reading of the verse teaches us a very important Halacha (Torah law). At times, we may skim or read through things quickly while studying Torah or davening. However, every word is important to understand and learn, as precise readings are key as evidence by this Gemarah. Remember to concentrate on all our words while praying and learning so as not to miss out on anything that we may be able to learn and gain insights from.
