101 Evaluations

[9b middle] Hillel: The difference between someone who serves G-d and one who does not is simply that the observant one learns something 101 times while the later only reviews it 100.
Klei Yakar: To זכר “remember” = 227, שחך “forget” = 328, the difference between them is 101! If we want to know the difference between the two and how to remember our studies that we learn, they must not just be done 100 times, but 101.

E’s Lesson#1 (based on R’ Rosner): The first 100 times someone learns something it may be for his/her own ego, “I learned this thing 100 times!” But the extra ONE does not do him/her any good, which shows that all the learning is really for the sake of G-d (when the 101st time is achieved). We must always strive to do things with proper intentions and not for ulterior/selfish motives.

E’s Lesson#2 (based on R’ Dessler): We must learn to appreciate every single ‘tiny’ Mitzvah and bit of learning that we do. Even though we might not see or understand it here and now (the difference between 100 and 101), we are moving worlds and shifting galaxies up in the spiritual realms that we will appreciate when our time here is done. Never take any opportunity to do a good deed for granted, Carpe Diem.
