Specify This!

[8b bottom] R’ Yochanan: When one has a lot of animal offerings to bring (ie: 10), they can be split into two days (five animals first day then five animals second day). This case is referring to where one specified that the animals would be offered on the first day (but then was not able to bring them all then, so can finish the next day). However, in a case where one designated animals without specifying that they would be offered on the first day, they would not be allowed to be brought on the second day.

T’s Lesson: Intention and keeping one’s word is extremely important. If one makes a commitment to do something, he/she should try my his/her hardest to fulfill it (and only if something happens out of one’s control can it be given a leniency to try again and fulfill it the next day). But, if one does not specify intent, we do not know a person’s thoughts and are unable to help the individual. Make sure to keep to our words and commitments and let others around us know our intentions, so as to best let others help along our ways.
